2018 Host Family Application

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a host teen and family in our 2018 Ulster Project Delaware (UPD) program. Every adventure begins with a first step. Your first step begins with the completion and submission of your application. You will need to complete the application in one sitting, so please allow 30 mins-1 hour before starting. 

Please read the information and follow the instructions below.

The UPD 2018 Application consists of five parts:

1. Teen Application Section (Online)

2. Teen Essay (Completed by teen only; Minimum One Page Double-Spaced.  Essay question has multiple parts which are listed below. You will be requested to upload your essay in the 3rd section of this application.)

a. Leadership experience is just one of the many things you will gain from participating in the project.  

     i. What role do you play in situations where leadership is necessary (Examples: leader, supporter, mediator, etc.)?  

     ii. How will this affect your contribution to the project?

     iii. How do you think leadership skills gained during UPD will benefit you in the future?

b. If accepted to Ulster Project Delaware, what do you see as your contribution to this cross-community project? Please include any previous or current experience of community or voluntary work and any other relevant information you think will help the UPD leaders.

c. What do you hope the project will do for you?

3. Parent/Guardian Application Section (Online)

4. Code of Conduct/Signatures Page (To be signed during interview)

5. Letter of Reference (Completed by Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Etc.)


Application submissions are currently being accepted. All sections of the application (except the Signatures Page) must be completed and submitted online in order to be considered as a candidate. There is a required host teen interview session which will be scheduled after your application has been reviewed.

Letters of acceptance will be emailed once application has been reviewed and interviews conducted.

Ulster Project Delaware

Family Code of Conduct


The Board of Directors of Ulster Project Delaware believes that the regulations outlined below are necessary for the safety and protection of the Northern Irish teens, the American teens and host families, and the project as a whole.  Any violation of these regulations will be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the Ulster Project Board and may result in the immediate removal of the Northern Irish teen or the American teen and family from the project.


  1. Any use of drugs is prohibited and will not be tolerated.


  1. No UPD teen participant is permitted to drink alcoholic beverages during the project. (Remember, it is illegal for anyone under twenty-one (21) to drink in the United States.)


  1. All UPD summer events, including orientation for host families and teen parties, will be alcohol free.


  1. All teen parties must be adequately and responsibly chaperoned and end at a reasonable time.


  1. No one under the age of eighteen (18) is permitted to drive a motor vehicle while a Northern Irish teen is a passenger.


  1. Northern Irish teens are not permitted to drive a motor vehicle.


  1. Teens must be present during entire project (no vacations, no sports, no Drivers Education, etc.).


  1. No use of cell phones by teens throughout the project unless permitted.


  1. Limit use of technology throughout entire month.


We have read the above regulations and by signing the Signatures Page below we agree to abide by them.  We also agree that any infraction of the aforementioned regulations may result in the immediate termination of our participation in the project.
